Renovations do not include cosmetic or replacement activities such as painting, replacing flooring, re-siding, replacing roofing material etc.
A Building Permit will always be required for structural renovations (i.e. adding a wall, taking down a wall, or altering the size of windows). Depending on your project, Plumbing, Gas, and/or Electrical Permits may also be required.
If your project requires a Building Permit, the Building Permit must be issued before Plumbing, Gas, and Electrical Permits can be issued.
Check out the Inspections Group reference guide for guidelines on applying for Building, Electrical, Gas, Plumbing and Private Sewage Permits.
