Statement re: Wildcats Agreement
June 06, 2019
The Town of Hinton wishes to address the rumours and allegations that have been circulating regarding the Western Provinces Hockey Association (the "WPHA") and the Hinton Wildcats Junior A Hockey Team Ltd. (the "Wildcats"). The Town had entered into an agreement with the Wildcats that provided for use of the Hinton Recreation Centre. As a result of the Wildcats failing to pay the amounts required by the agreement or to remedy those defaults in the time required, that agreement was terminated. There is no longer any agreement between the Town and the Wildcats. The WPHA and the Wildcats have recently commenced legal action seeking to declare that the agreement remains in effect; however, there is no basis for that legal action and the Town intends to respond and have the application dismissed.
The Town is also aware of the ongoing dispute between the WHPA and the Western States Hockey League, but that is a matter between those two parties. The Town has no further relationship with the Wildcats, and will not comment on the ongoing dispute between those parties. The Town is focused on looking out for the best interests of its residents and ratepayers and moving forward with other opportunities to best serve our residents.
