The Challenge in the Rockies Returns to Hinton

The 4th Annual Challenge in the Rockies is now underway!

This week 33 hockey teams are involved in a major Hinton event, The Challenge in the Rockies. The Challenge, which runs from March 29 through to April 2, will also bring in Oilers Alumni and stars of the 1977 film Slapshot for a celebrity game on Saturday night in the Bill Thompson Arena.

Residents are recommended to be prepared for extra traffic in the arena area, as well as lots of extra visitors to area amenities.

Also of note; both courts, and the bouldering wall, will be closed for the duration of the event. The Youth Centre, however, will remain open during their regular hours.

All residents are encouraged to provide a friendly welcome to visitors to our community.

The Challenge in the Rockies is one of many community events and programs supported in part through the Hinton Community Grant Program. Since 2015, The Challenge has received more than $30,000 in support.

The CGP accepts grant applications twice annually, in April and October, and is funded through the community's Automatic Traffic Safety Enforcement.

Town of Hinton myHinton App: Our new myHinton app makes for a great tool when navigating our community! The resource directory has a list of all active business licenses, and includes phone numbers, and addresses, for things like restaurants, hotels, and more! Also listed on the app: Facilities, Newsflash, Calendar and more!

Hinton Visitor Centre: The Hinton Visitor Centre, located besides our Cougar Statue, has information on all area attractions, activities, and friendly, helpful staff.

Google Maps: In addition to being a great tool to find your way around the community, The Town of Hinton last year integrated our transit system with their navigation systems. This means all you need to do is type a destination and enable my location to find out the nearest transit stop, when the bus is coming, and even plan a return route. This is a great tool to take a break from the rink in our Valley, Hill, or Mall shopping areas without needing to drive and lose your parking spot

Team members also received Hinton Visitor Guides from the Hinton Chamber of Commerce, which contains great information on everything Hinton has on offer.
