Beaver Boardwalk CLOSURE

January 24, 2025

As part of ongoing efforts to repair and reconstruct sections of the Boardwalk, work will begin at 7:00 AM on Sunday, January 26, requiring the temporary closure of the entire area. The Town of Hinton is dedicated to restoration at the Beaver Boardwalk to ensure it remains a safe and accessible natural amenity for our community.

What You Need to Know

  • Full Closure for Safety: With entire sections of the Boardwalk already removed, the area will be closed to the public starting Sunday morning. Please respect construction signage and avoid the area to ensure your safety and the safety of workers.
  • Construction Zones:
    • Mobilization sites include the green space on Reimer Drive and a satellite site near Section CC. These areas will be active with equipment and crews, requiring personal protective equipment (PPE) to enter.
    • Sections C, D, E, J, P, Q, U, V, W, and X have been or are in the process of being removed. Additionally, Sections A and B are now inaccessible.
    • To accommodate work vehicles, parking will be restricted on the section of Sutherland Avenue near the Boardwalk entrance.

Environmental Monitoring

Twister Piling contractors are onsite and are closely monitored by our environmental scientist to ensure compliance with Water Act permits. All activities align with stringent environmental standards to protect the surrounding ecosystem.

Impact on Events

The Town and its contractor are working closely with the Hinton Mountain Bike Association (HMBA) to support the Fat Bike Growler race on February 8. Race participants will have designated access through Reimer Drive on the day of the event, and final plans for pre-race access on February 7 will be determined soon.

To stay updated on the project details and timelines, we encourage you to visit the Beaver Boardwalk project page at www.hinton.ca/BeaverBoardwalk. This page includes comprehensive information about the project and any upcoming changes.

The Town of Hinton and BBOC again thank the Forest Resource Improvement Association of Alberta for their generous contribution of $2.5M, which will ensure the completion of Phases I and II.

We appreciate the patience and understanding of residents and visitors as we complete this project. We’re excited to welcome you back to a rehabilitated Boardwalk when construction is complete!
