Low Income Transit Program Launches in Hinton

October 18, 2024

The Town of Hinton, in partnership with Hinton Family and Community Support Services (FCSS), is pleased to announce the launch of the Low-Income Transit Program (LITP). This program provides reduced-rate transit passes to low-income families, offering affordable and accessible public transportation options.

Funded by a $17,645 agreement with the Provincial Ministry of Seniors, Community, and Social Services, the LITP runs October 15, 2024, to March 31, 2025. The program aims to support those who may otherwise face financial barriers to accessing essential services and community connections.

“We are thrilled to be able to offer this program again to our community, providing essential support to individuals and families living on low incomes,” said Caryn Bouchard, FCSS Manager. “Public transportation is a vital service, and we want to ensure it is accessible to everyone.”

To ensure broad community impact, Hinton FCSS is working closely with several local organizations, including Hinton Foodbank, West Yellowhead Women’s Shelter, HIV West Yellowhead, B.R.I.D.G.E.S, and Hinton Employment Learning Place.

Transit passes can be obtained by visiting the FCSS office at 821 Switzer Drive or by calling 780-865-6036. FCSS staff will assist with eligibility requirements and the application process.
