National Drowning Prevention Week: July 16 - 22July 19, 2023 Learn to Swim:Swimming skills are not innate - they need to be taught. Did you know that most drownings occur close to safety? Can you survive an accidental or unintentional fall into the water? It's crucial to equip ourselves and our loved ones with vital swim survival skills. Introducing Swim to Survive (S2S):- Swim to Survive is different from traditional swimming lessons - it's not a replacement for them. It focuses on teaching the necessary skills to survive an unexpected fall into deep water.
- Meeting the Canadian Swim to Survive Standard is an important first step to being safe around water. These are the minimum swim skills needed to survive in case of an emergency.
- Basic swimming ability is a requirement to eliminate drowning in Canada effectively. Everyone deserves the opportunity to learn swim survival skills.
Make sure all family members can learn the three essential skills:- Roll into deep water: Learn how to safely enter the water when unexpected circumstances arise.
- Tread water for 1 minute: Master the ability to stay afloat and conserve energy in deep water.
- Swim 50 meters: Gain the confidence to swim a significant distance to reach safety.
Let's prioritize water safety and ensure that everyone has the skills to stay safe in and around the water. Enroll in swim survival programs and encourage others to do the same. Together, we can make a difference and prevent drownings.
