Citizens' Minute with Council

Residents are welcome to speak to Council about issues, events, celebrations or concerns during Minute with Council. At the beginning of each regular Council Meeting, Mayor Michaels opens the floor to the public to speak and share with Council members, administration and meeting observers.

Ms. Morgan Roberts came and spoke to Council with regards to the Hinton Friendship Centres Land Based Training Conference and workshops coming to Hinton next week with a funding request for the event.

Delegations

Presentations are required to be arranged through the Executive Assistant so that presenters can be sure time is set aside for their presentations on the Council agenda. Find out more about how to be a delegation by following this link.

Action Items

1. Hinton Friendship Centre Contribution
Council voted in favour of contributing $1000.00 towards the Hinton Friendship Centre Land Based Training Conference, to come from Council Contingency Fund.

Council directed Administration bring a discussion item regarding one-off financial requests of Council to a future Committee of the Whole Meeting.

Council Reporting

Mayor Marcel Michaels: Not present.

Councillor Ostashek: Attended a Beaver Boardwalk Oversight Committee Meeting.

Councillor Maguhn: Not present.

Councillor Haas: Expressed that he is looking forward to Budget Workshops this weekend.

Councillor Taylor: Attended a Council Committee Code of Conduct session. Attended funerals for Gordon Tocher and Dr. Duncan Murray and expressed great appreciation for their contributions to the community.

Councillor Race: Attending the Family & Community Support Services Association Of Alberta Convention in Edmonton.

Councillor LaBerge: Attending Home for Fine Arts Society of Hinton (ASH) meeting.

CAO Panasiuk:

Reported that 'all-hands-on-deck' regarding Budget 2023 preparations.
Reported that the Maxwell Lake Bridge project would soon go out for tender. The project has to be completed under frozen conditions so will likely begin in January. A grant for $140,000 has been obtained for the project, reducing the municipal contribution to $22,000.
Announced that Town of Hinton has received the bronze award at the Psychological Safe Workplace Awards for the efforts it is making to improve its culture and prevent problems from escalating when it comes to mental health. "A tremendous achievement."

The floor is open at the beginning of the meeting to the public to share with Council members, Administration and meeting observers. To ensure this time is constructive and welcoming to those participating and those present, the guidelines to the public for Minute with Council are,

Keep your discussion to no more than one minute in length;
Speak directly to the Chair of the meeting when addressing Council;
Refrain from asking questions of Council or Administration, as this is not intended to be a Q&A session; and
