Arena Heaters Update

Today (November 15, 2022) the compressors in both arenas at the Dr. Duncan Murray Recreation Centre underwent a parts retrofit and are functioning better. 
 
However, in order to preserve ice conditions, heaters in both the Bill Thomson Arena (BTA) and Steve Hotchkiss Arena (SHA) will not be able to be used this evening.
 
During the recent cold snap, select heaters were switched on in both arenas during programming as Arena Operators and the Maintenance team were able to preserve the ice during downtime by switching the heaters back off. But as the outdoor temperatures have warmed up from the -20C degrees range, turning the heaters on too soon may result in lost ice or an unsafe surface.
 
Contractors will return to continue repairs shortly. The Parks, Recreation, and Culture team will keep the community informed of ice plant maintenance efforts and when the restoration of heat in the arenas can be expected.
