Around the World in 5 Days:
Indigenous Canada
August 11, 2022
Join us on a journey celebrating the cultures that shape Hinton’s diverse community at a five-day festival, Around the World in Five Days.
In partnership with Discovery Camp, the Government of Canada Department of Heritage is providing our community with this first annual festival designed to engage the youth of our town in embracing the spirit of multiculturalism and giving community members a chance to come together to share their culture and learn about their neighbours’ culture.
Around the World in Five Days will take place at Gordon Moore Memorial Park from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. every day from August 8 to 12. Each day will focus on a different culture, representative of the wonderful Town of Hinton, and honour that culture with traditional games, crafts, and foods.
UPDATE: Due to weather conditions, todays event will be in the BTA in the Dr. Duncan Murray Recreation Center.
Today! Thursday, August 11: Indigenous Canada
On Thursday, we return home to Canada to celebrate our Indigenous culture.
In the morning, there will be beading workshops and a performance of songs and stories by the Warrior Women, Matricia and Mackenzie Brown.
After a lunch feast, watch the Warrior Women again and snack on Bannock cooked over a bonfire, followed by a mini Pow Wow! Special guests Berta Kakinoosit and Running Thunder Dancers, with Hinton’s own Blakely Callihoo, Dax Callihoo, Nikki Kelley, Ileigh Kelley, Abby Kelley, and MORE!
Please note activities are aimed for ages 5 to 12, but all are welcome. Children who are not enrolled in Discovery Camp must be accompanied by an adult.
