Citizens' Minute with Council


Residents are welcome to speak to Council about issues, events, celebrations or concerns during Minute with Council. At the beginning of each regular Council Meeting, Mayor Michaels opens the floor to the public to speak and share with Council members, administration and meeting observers.

Delegations


Presentations are required to be arranged through the Executive Assistant so that presenters can be sure time is set aside for their presentations on the Council agenda. Find out more about how to be a delegation by following this link.

Public Hearing


1. Land Use Bylaw Amendment No. 1088-17

 There were no late written submissions relating to Bylaw No. 1088-17. There was no one present who wished to speak in favour or in opposition to Bylaw No. 1088-17.

Action Items


1. Land Use Bylaw Amendment No. 1088-17 Second & Third Reading. Business License Bylaw Amendment No. 1126-2 - Third Reading.
Council gave Land Use Bylaw No. 1088-17 Second and Third Reading. Council gave Business License Bylaw No. 1162-2 Third Reading as amended.

2. Bylaw No. 1169 Youth Advisory Council
Council voted to give First, Second and Third Reading to Hinton Youth Advisory Council Bylaw No. 1169.

3. Replacement of Town Owned Sweeper (1997 Elgin Eagle)
Council approved the purchase of a rental return Elgin Eagle Street sweeper for a price not to exceed $350,000 as discussed at the July 26, 2022, Committee of the Whole Meeting.

4. Economic Development Proposal (Community Futures)
Council voted to provide up to $25,000 from the “Remaining 2022 Economic Development Budget” to Community Futures West Yellowhead to provide funds for a Local Economic Recovery Grant Program to be expended before the end of 2022.

Closed Session


1. CAO Recruitment Update (closed per s.17 of FOIP)
Council approved the draft amendments to the CAO Contract as discussed in Closed Session.

Minute with Council Access


With public health restrictions now lifted, members of the public are invited to join Council in-person for Minute with Council during Regular Council Meetings. 

The Town is also continuing to offer virtual access to this session. Please use this form to receive an invite code to join our proceedings remotely.

The floor is open at the beginning of the meeting to the public to share with Council members, Administration and meeting observers. To ensure this time is constructive and welcoming to those participating and those present, the guidelines to the public for Minute with Council are,
  • Keep your discussion to no more than one minute in length;
  • Speak directly to the Chair of the meeting when addressing Council;
  • Refrain from asking questions of Council or Administration, as this is not intended to be a Q&A session; and
  • Speak respectfully, as the use of abusive, insulting or aggressive tone or language will not be tolerated.
