Citizens' Minute with Council

Residents are welcome to speak to Council about issues, events, celebrations or concerns during Minute with Council. At the beginning of each regular Council Meeting, Mayor Michaels opens the floor to the public to speak and share with Council members, administration and meeting observers.

Ms. Ellen LaBrecque spoke with concerns to the use of the Freedom Express ridership and increase ridership availability for customers.

Delegations

Presentations are required to be arranged through the Executive Assistant so that presenters can be sure time is set aside for their presentations on the Council agenda. Find out more about how to be a delegation by following this link.

Action Items

1. 2011 International Solid Waste Truck MD-2627
Council approved the purchase of the rental unit, the 2011 International Solid Waste Truck, using funds from the sale of the 2020 Curatto Can.

2. 2022 Public Auction Reserve Bid for Tax Arrears Properties
Council approved the reserve bids as shown on Attachment 1 of the Agenda for tax arrears properties 4, 21, 41, 42, 70, 80, 89, 271, and 328 (133 Jarvis Street), 2, 9A, 13A, 27, 73, and 114 (145 East River Road), and 106B Cheviot Drive and set the public auction date for September 23, 2022, at 1:00 pm.

3. Waiver of Outstanding Property Taxes
Council approved the request from McClelland Stolfa Reed to waive taxes owed (including penalties and interest) on three (3) mobile home placements located in the Hillcrest Manufactured Home Community totalling $12,281.73:

4. Hinton RCMP Municipal Detachment Multi-Year Financial Plan
Council voted to bring the Hinton Municipal Detachment Multi-Year Financial Plan (April 1, 2023, to March 31, 2028) to a future Committee of the Whole Meeting for further discussion.
Council directed Administration to bring a report detailing options regarding Community Policing in the Town of Hinton before the end of September 2022.

5. Unbudgeted Funding Request - 2022 Service Level Review
Council approved funding the 2022 Service Level Review in an amount not to exceed $75,000 (excluding GST) from the COVID-19 Resiliency Support Program Fund.

Council Reporting

Mayor Marcel Michaels: Not present.

Councillor Ostashek: Walked in Canada Day Parade. Kudos to Hinton & District Chamber of Commerce for the well organized parade.

Councillor Maguhn: Attending RCMP Committee Meeting July 6.

Councillor Haas: Has been under the weather for the last week so could not attend Canada Day.

Councillor Taylor: Heard there was tremendous participation in the Canada Day parade, thanked Don Engerdahl, Town of Hinton Events Coordinator, for his excellent work.

Councillor Race: Attended Canada Day celebrations. Thank you to Don Engerdahl and the Town of Hinton for everything they did that day.

Councillor LaBerge: Reported there have been CAO interviews and he is looking forward to having someone in that position permanently.

Interim CAO Paul Hanlan: Land Acknowledgement Committee meeting this Thursday, thanked Council and Heather Mark, Municipal Intern, for their input so far. Attending the 76th annual TransCanada Yellowhead Highway Association meeting on Friday. Starting Union negotiations July 6. Received audited financial statements and reviewing them this week. Noted ongoing issues with the pool shutdown, hopes to share an update July 6.

Council directed Deputy Mayor Haas to proceed as discussed in Closed Session.
