Citizens Minute with Council

Joan Janeczko presented for H20 Inc. The group, which offers an inclusive swim program for swimmers of all ability and age, is planning a trip to West Edmonton Mall Water Park. Fundraising is underway, with a BBQ scheduled for the M&M Meat Shop parking lot April 2 from 11 am to 3 pm. 

Action Items

Municipal Taxes 120 McKay

Council did not vote in favour of a request to forgive tax penalties on a property at 120 McKay Crescent. Over 3,000 dollars in taxes from 2013-2016 remain as owner tries to sell family home. Council cited the precedence setting potential of decision and possible impact of leniency on this case being expected in future interactions with citizens.

Sponsorship and Advertising Policy
Council voted to accept the Draft Sponsorship & Advertising policy, as previously discussed in standing committee.

Holiday Garbage Collection
Please be advised that there will be no garbage collection on Good Friday, March 25, 2016. Garbage normally collected on Friday will be collected on Thursday, March 24, 2016. Please call Infrastructure Services at 780-865-2634 for more information.

Arts Facility Meeting
The arts facility discussion is to be held next week in standing committee meeting, with location moved from committee room to council chambers due to anticipated large number of attendees. An overall budget will be presented, with individual cost breakdown available for councillors in camera.

GTE  Presents to Admin
Global traffic has demonstrated new technology for admin that will soon be adopted in the town traffic enforcement. A similar demonstration will be held for councillors closer to roll out to general public.

Protective Services Department
Todd Martens’ role with the Town of Hinton has been expanded to include Automatic Traffic enforcement in addition to Fire, Rescue, and Bylaw services. His new title is Protective Services Manager.

Hinton Protective services is hosting a recruitment drive, which will include information on the department and a BBQ lunch March 19th from 10 am to 2pm. For more information, visit the community calendar
