Citizens' Minute with Council

Residents are welcome to speak to Council about issues, events, celebrations or concerns during Minute with Council. At the beginning of each regular Council Meeting, Mayor Michaels opens the floor to the public to speak and share with Council members, administration and meeting observers.

Action Items

1. Appointments to the Beaver Boardwalk Oversight Committee (BBOC)

Council motion: that Council appoint Alice Paquet as the Environment Representative to the Beaver Boardwalk Community Oversight Committee.

Carried unanimously

Council motion: that Council appoint Joehn Torres as the Youth Representative to the Beaver Boardwalk Community Oversight Committee.

Carried unanimously

2. Yellowhead Regional Waste Management Authority Agreement

Council motion: that the Town of Hinton confirms Yellowhead County as the administrative head of the Yellowhead Regional Waste Management Authority.

Carried 6-1

Council motion: that the Town of Hinton approves the Yellowhead Regional Waste Management Authority, and the Management, Agreements as presented and attached hereto.

Carried unanimously

Council motion: that Council direct Administration to bring back the cost and time savings for staff from the elimination of the WYRWMA Management Agreement and how the cost savings will be utilized.

3. Land Acknowledgement Task Committee

Council motion: that Council establish a working committee for the purpose of establishing a Land Acknowledgment Statement and direct Administration to establish a draft terms of reference to be brought back to a Committee of Whole meeting before the end of May 2022.

Information Items

Mayor Marcel Michaels delivered a proclamation regarding National Volunteer Week (April 24-30).

Council Reporting:

Mayor Marcel Michaels: Attended Economic Developers Alberta (EDA) 2022 Leaders' Summit and Conference and the Alberta Seniors Community Housing Association (ASCHA) Convention and Trade Show. Thanked departing Parks, Recreation and Culture Manager Hans Van Klaveren for his service and wished him well in the future.

Councillor Ostashek: Attended Beaver Boardwalk Community Oversight Committee (BBOC) meeting.

Councillor Maguhn: None.

Councillor Haas: Reported Hinton Municipal Library is changing name of its meeting room to the Tom Peterson room. Congratulated Family and Community Support Services (FCSS) for their successful grant applications. Will attend Youth Council meeting Thursday, April 21.

Councillor Taylor: None.

Councillor Race: None.

Councillor LaBerge: Attended Hinton Regional Economic Development Coalition (HREDC) meeting.

Interim CAO Paul Hanlan: Looking forward to Strategic Planning Session on Friday and Saturday.
