Interim CAO Announcement

The Town of Hinton is excited to welcome its new Interim Chief Administrative Officer, Mr. Paul Hanlan. Hanlan has been appointed by Council for up-to a six-month term to aid the Town as it transitions from the support provided by Acting CAO Laura Howarth until our permanent CAO is back in place. Hanlan officially starts with the Town on January 19^th, 2022.
 
The Town will receive an excellent return under Hanlan’s leadership and benefit from his experience as a municipal manager, mentor, and facilitator. Council, in turn, is eager to provide Hanlan with a meaningful service-oriented opportunity that will cultivate continued professional development while working in our beautiful community, gateway to the Rockies.
 
Recently, Hanlan served as CAO of Thorhild County where he developed a five-year plan to reduce the operating budget by $1.5 million while continuing to maintain desired service levels to the community. Council is honoured to welcome his expertise with balancing budgets as we reconcile our own financials. Prior to this, Hanlan initiated similar projects focusing on fiscal responsibility as CAO for Woodlands County.
 
Hanlan is recognized as a problem-solver, with experience in Emergency Management commands. He boasts extensive certifications and training in the spaces of Health and Safety, Crisis Intervention, and Emotional Leadership Intelligence.
He holds a Master’s in Urban and Rural Planning from the Technical University of Nova Scotia, and a Certificate in Municipal Management Leadership from the University of Alberta Executive School of Business. A member of both Alberta Municipalities and the Rural Municipalities Association, Hanlan’s connections across the province will undoubtedly favour Hinton’s position amongst its municipal peers while we are fortunate to have Hanlan at the helm.
 
As Town Council embarks on its endeavour to create a Strategic Plan to cement Hinton’s values for the upcoming four years, Hanlan’s experience in the development of such for Stony Plain in 2016 will lend invaluable insight into this process. His reputation as a collaborator and manager will synthesize the diversity of Departments under the purview of Town Council. Hanlan’s glowing references proceed him as a sympathetic and effective manager able to address and satisfy the complex deliverables required by municipalities.
