The Town of Hinton’s Family and Community Support Services (FCSS) has once again secured grant funding from the Alberta Government to continue the Low-Income Transit Program (LITP) from April 1, 2025, to March 31, 2026.
Town of Hinton Secures Funding for Low-Income Transit Program
The Town of Hinton’s Family and Community Support Services (FCSS) has once again secured grant funding from the Alberta Government to continue the Low-Income Transit Program (LITP) from April 1, 2025, to March 31, 2026. This funding allows eligible residents to purchase a monthly or punch-card transit pass at a reduced rate.
Individuals must complete an application form and provide the required documentation to qualify. Applications and reduced-fare passes are available exclusively at the FCSS office at 821 Switzer Drive.
Applicants must provide:
- Personal information
- Proof of annual household income (e.g., Notice of Assessment or Notice of Reassessment for the corresponding year)
- Verification of eligible dependents (ages 17 and under, if applicable)
Eligibility Criteria:
Applicants must either have an income below the Low-Income Cut-Off (LICO) or meet one of the following conditions:
- Receive Assured Income for the Severely Handicapped (AISH) or the Canada Pension Plan Disability Benefit (CPP-D)
- Receive Government of Alberta Income Support or Learner Income Support
- Be a new Permanent Resident or Refugee (in Canada for less than one year, without having filed a tax return)
- Be a child under government care
- Receive Employment Insurance (EI) benefits (only the recipient is eligible)
In addition, individuals whose income is at least 15% below the LICO threshold qualify for 15 free one-way transit trips annually.
Who is not eligible?
- Children aged six and under (who already ride free)
- Canadian National Institute for the Blind (CNIB) cardholders (who already receive transit benefits)
- Individuals exceeding the LITP income threshold or those unable to provide the required documentation
