VSU Helps Profile 4: Death – Sudden Death & Death Notification
What can VSU Advocates do with Death – Sudden Death & Death Notification files?
In cases of sudden death, whether accidental, suicide or death in the home, Advocates can help with family members at the scene or the hospital. Advocates can also attend with RCMP when doing a Notification of Next of Kin. After notification, the RCMP may leave and Advocates will stay behind to assist the victim until adequate support from family/friends arrives.
In cases of Motor Vehicle Accidents with fatalities, where charges will be laid against the driver at fault, court support will be provided throughout the court process. The Court Support Worker will ensure that you are made aware of the process for Requests for Restitution and Victim Impact Statements.
