Hinton is hosting the Go Girl Conference on Saturday, April 8th. We will host over 150 young women from around our region (including Jasper, Whitecourt, Edson, Fox Creek, and Yellowhead County) for this all day girls conference. The goal of Go Girl is to allow the ladies to meet new friends, feel empowered, and try new skills in a comfortable, non-judgemental setting. The conference is open to girls in grades 5-9 and the location rotates every year between participating communities. It is a great way for each community to showcase unique opportunities for young women in their areas.
We have numerous amazing women in our community that have stepped up to host a session and share their skills and passions. The girls had over 14 session choices to choose from including Nerf war, arm knitting, bouldering, hip hop dancing, synchronized swimming, and boxing. With all the interest and numerous volunteers and non-profits in our community, it was easy to find a good selection of sessions for the girls. Some sessions are hands on and other are informative, but all have the common goal of allowing the ladies to step outside of their comfort zone and try new things.
Due to the large number of attendees, the Recreation Centre will be unavailable to for public use. Both arena floors, the bouldering wall, and all courts and meeting rooms will be unavailable until 5pm. The pool will reopen for the day at 230 with the regularly scheduled Toonie Family Swim.
