[ARCHIVED] Coats for Kids & the Community: Keeping Hinton Warm This Winter

Coats for Kids

Running from October 1 to November 30, this annual program collects and distributes free winter coats and accessories for children, youth, and adults of all ages. Thanks to the generosity of our community, hundreds of coats find new homes each season.

Winter in Hinton brings cold temperatures, snow, and icy winds. For many families and individuals, staying warm can be a challenge. The Coats for Kids & the Community program is here to make sure no one has to face the winter without the proper outerwear.

Running from October 1 to November 30, this annual program collects and distributes free winter coats and accessories for children, youth, and adults of all ages. Thanks to the generosity of our community, hundreds of coats find new homes each year, helping neighbours stay safe and warm throughout the season.

Why This Program Matters

A warm coat can make all the difference in someone’s day. It means a child can walk to school comfortably, a parent can get to work safely, and seniors can attend appointments without worrying about the cold.

The program also encourages sustainable living. By reusing gently worn items, we reduce waste and give coats a new life. Choosing secondhand helps prevent overconsumption, protecting both our community and our environment.

How to Donate

We welcome donations of clean, gently used, outgrown, or new winter outerwear. Items accepted include:

  • Men’s, women’s, and children’s winter coats
  • Toques, mitts, and scarves (all ages)
  • Snow pants (adult and children’s sizes)

Please note: Non-winter clothing and outerwear cannot be accepted.

If you don’t have coats to give, you can still support the program with a monetary donation. These funds are used to purchase coats in sizes we may be short on or to meet specific requests from community agencies. Contact FCSS for more information.
