Hinton Energy Festival
Friday, September 22, 2023
The Hinton Energy Festival is back for a second year! Join hosts, Novus Earth, and guests working in the West Yellowhead for an afternoon catching up on the energy sector activity in our region. The festival is open to the public from 3:30pm – 8:00pm at the Hinton PATH.
“The Hinton Energy Festival provides an opportunity for companies active in the area to connect with local and regional students, residents, and businesses,” stated Novus Earth Chief Administrative Officer, Emily Olsen. “This is the primary goal of the festival and why we plan to host it annually to celebrate energy diversity in the West Yellowhead.”
This year’s festival will see nearly double the number of participants in the trade show style event located in the PATH theatre space. Outdoor and indoor activities, food trucks, draw prizes and a colouring contest will be featured as well.
The morning of the festival will be spent welcoming classes from local secondary schools for presentations on topics such as geothermal 101, solar power, oil and natural gas, energy safety, and more. The educational component of the event is intended to familiarize students with the kinds of energy work taking place in our area and Province, as well as share general information on energy careers, safety, and projects.
“We are excited to check in with the community and share what we have been working on over the last year,” stated Novus Earth President, Jeff Messner. “Our project has centred on the development of our geothermal well in the Obed area, and exploration of an expanded direction for direct-use geothermal energy sales to support heat-intensive industries.”
Novus Earth Energy Operations Inc. is an Alberta-based, closed-loop geothermal company focussed on thermal and electrical sales. As a next generation energy provider, Novus Earth is poised to be the first commercial closed-loop geothermal operator in Canada.
Novus Earth’s first project is located in the Obed region of Yellowhead County and will provide thermal energy in the first stage of commercializing geothermal well technology, and electrical production in the second stage. Vertical farming remains a corporate objective for Novus Earth, and timelines have shifted to sequence the project priorities accordingly. With the recent strategic partnership announced with Freshbay Inc, a greenhouse company with plans to construct a 20-acre greenhouse near the Novus Earth wellsite, the project will advance in the coming months.
